Healing on the Streets - HOTS

On the first and third Saturday's of each month the church takes to the road, or at least part of it does.  In response to the vision given to us for the Abingdon church to be a 'Church without walls' it was natural for us to look for ways to do things in the community where we go the people rather than they needing to come to us.  One important example of this is HOTS.

We learned about HOTS from a guy called Mark Marx from Colraine Vineyard in Northern Ireland.  He had researched the healing work that Jesus did and that of the disciples (Christians like us today) as recorded in the bible and developed a practical model supported by some great teaching out of the research he had done.  This teaching is of course predicated on the belief, and practical knowledge from seeing healing taking place, that Jesus does indeed heal today.  Mark Marx has a website www.out-there.org that is worth a visit.

We have been going out into the community with HOTS for around 2 years and at least one other church in Abingdon has taken up this ministry locally to where they meet.  We meet in the Market Place in the centre of Abingdon for 1 hour between 11:00 and 12:00 on these Saturday mornings giving out leaflets and inviting people to receive prayer for anything that is a problem to them be it health, finances, emotional or any other matter.

We have had some amazing encounters talking to and praying for people in the square and through them for their family and friends.  Similarly we have had encouraging reports back that following prayer things have really changed in people's lives and this we believe to be a practical demonstration of Jesus healing in the world today.
